Ukraine’s foreign trade deficit grew to $18.5 billion in six months: State Statistics Service

In the first half of 2025, Ukraine exported goods worth $20.04 billion, while imports amounted to $38.56 billion. As a result, the negative balance of foreign trade in goods reached 18.51 billion dollars, and the import-export coverage ratio decreased to 0.52 against 0.63 a year earlier, according to the report of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

Compared to the same period last year, exports decreased by 4.2%, while imports increased by 15.6%. In the structure of Ukrainian exports, the largest share was made up of products of vegetable origin — 5.21 billion dollars. Among them are grains, the supply of which decreased by 24.2% and amounted to 3.99 billion dollars.

The second position in terms of volume is occupied by fats and oils of animal and vegetable origin – 3.6 billion dollars, followed by base metals and their products – 2.27 billion dollars, ready-made food products – 1.9 billion dollars and machines with electrical engineering – 1.75 billion dollars.

Imports, in turn, were concentrated mainly on goods with high added value. In particular, machinery and equipment amounted to $8.91 billion, vehicles and aviation and marine equipment — $5.37 billion, mineral products — $5.24 billion, chemical industry products — $4.42 billion, and base metals — $2.07 billion.

We remind you that by the end of 2024, Ukraine ranked third in the world in terms of honey exports. The largest importers of Ukrainian honey were Germany — 18.9 thousand tons, the USA — 12.1 thousand tons, Poland — 9.7 thousand tons, France — 9.6 thousand tons, and Belgium — 7.1 thousand tons. In addition, Ukrainian honey was supplied to Turkey, Great Britain, Japan, Switzerland, Canada, Qatar, Jordan and a number of other countries.
