Ukraine sent an official note to China regarding the actions of the HENG YANG 9 vessel in the occupied Crimea
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine declared a violation of international law due to the repeated actions of the container ship HENG YANG 9 to the port of temporarily occupied Sevastopol. The ship belongs to the Chinese company Guangxi Changhai. reported this by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhi.
“In connection with this incident, the Embassy of Ukraine in China sent an official note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. Ukraine has also informed the International Maritime Organization (IMO) about it, Tyhiy noted.
The agency strongly condemned the vessel’s actions, stressing that they show contempt for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“The fact that the ship, which belongs to the Chinese company Guangxi Changhai, deliberately concealed its movements, transmitting false data about the route, which confirms the perceived nature of the violation, is particularly indignant, stressed George the Quiet.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported that these actions are contrary to international law, in particular Resolution 68/262 “ Territorial integrity of Ukraine” and provisions of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Kyiv called on Beijing to take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and to prevent Chinese companies from cooperating with the occupation authorities.
“The Ukrainian side reserves the right to respond appropriately to all cases of violations of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, in particular, by imposing sanctions against the individuals and legal entities involved”, the MFA commented.
