Ukraine turned to the IMF with a request for a new financing program

Ukraine turned to the International Monetary Fund with a request for a new financing program. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, who held a meeting with the IMF mission that worked in Kyiv during the last week.

“Ukraine passed a record eight viewings under the current program. I am grateful to the IMF for supporting all these years of full-scale invasion. But active hostilities continue, and the draft state budget for 2026 is formed with the assumption that the war is far from over. Today, at the meeting, she handed the head of the IMF mission, Gavin Gray, a letter with a request for a new cooperation program that should support Ukraine over the next few years, Svyridenko said.

According to her, the parties agreed to continue consultations between the teams in the coming months “to get a positive decision of the IMF Board of Directors by the end of the year”. Svyridenko did not specify exactly what amount the government plans to attract within the framework of the new program.

We would like to remind you that the State Budget of Ukraine has already received nine tranches within the framework of the current IMF extended financing program with a total amount of about 10.6 billion dollars from the planned 15.5 billion US dollars for the period 2023-2027. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the IMF has become the third largest source of financial support for Ukraine after the European Union and the United States.
