Ukraine updates state register of medicines

Ministry of Health of Ukraine presented the updated version of the state register of medicinal products. Information on almost 16,500 medical drugs was transferred to the new system, which was previously analyzed and cleaned before migration.

The register contains data on medicinal products, pharmaceutical ingredients and supports the exchange of information with other systems. It is an important tool for the work of such bodies as the Ministry of Health, the State Expert Center, the State Medical Service, and at the same time it is open for use by citizens. This resource plays a key role in quality assurance and control over the circulation of medicinal products in Ukraine.

Updating the register will make it possible to adapt it to the requirements of the European Union regarding information systems in the field of health care and create the basis for mutual international recognition of electronic prescriptions.

The development of new functionality and data transfer was carried out by the Ministry of Health with the support of the UN Development Program in Ukraine. The work was carried out within the framework of the project “Strengthening the potential of crisis management and response to emergency situations at all levels of state authorities in Ukraine” and the “Action Support Project” with funding from the governments of Germany and Sweden.

The need for data analysis, cleaning and migration was due to significant technological differences between the previous and new version of the system.

“Ensuring transparency and efficiency in the field of circulation of medicinal products in Ukraine is one of the important priorities. Implementation of the updated version of the register of medicinal products is an important step in this direction”, — said Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for Digital Development Maria Karchevych.

Prior to this, UNDP, with the participation of international partners, has already helped the Ministry of Health to implement two more information systems related to medical devices. Updating the registers should contribute to increasing the efficiency of the management of the circulation of medicines and medical products in Ukraine.
