Ukraine will switch to hourly power cuts in the coming days: Shmyhal

Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that in the coming days Ukraine may switch from emergency power outages to hourly schedules. According to him, energy workers have managed to partially stabilize the system after the latest massive Russian attacks.

“We expect to gradually switch from emergency to hourly outages in the coming days. Our task is to reach the projected schedules of up to 3-4 shifts. We are also forming additional reserve teams to strengthen work”, – Shmyhal emphasized.

Shmyhal emphasized that the restoration of damaged generation facilities and increased electricity imports create conditions for the transition to a more predictable regime. Planned outages will allow citizens and businesses to better organize their day and reduce the chaotic nature of outages typical of emergency situations.

At the same time, the minister reported that the energy system remains vulnerable and any new shocks may again lead to a capacity shortage. Repair and restoration work on facilities continues around the clock, and the government continues negotiations with partners on the provision of additional technical assistance.

The final decision on the transition to hourly schedules will be made after analyzing the daily electricity balance and the state of key energy facilities.
