Ukrainian climbers made the largest ascent of Everest

Six Ukrainian climbers climbed Everest, which became the largest ascent to the highest peak in the world in the entire history of Ukrainian mountaineering. About this reported Valentyn Sypavin from Kharkiv, who has climbed to the top eight times already.

“On May 14, six Ukrainian men and women climbed Everest. This is definitely the most massive ascent of Ukrainians on this mountain. And the next day, four Ukrainians climbed the fourth peak of the world, Lhotse, which is nearby. This is also the most massive ascent for Ukraine in the entire history. And one of the participants set another record – she climbed these two mountains in 12 hours. Usually these ascents are divided: one day – Everest, the second – Lhotse. And here is such a time! No Ukrainian has done this before.” – said Sypavin.

According to him, the Ukrainian climbers are already in the base camp:

“They came down. They feel good. A little trouble with the voice, but it’s professional – after the cold wind.”

Along with Sypavin, there were two more Kharkiv residents in the expedition: Vyacheslav Kalashnikov and Margarita Dyachenko.

“With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, Vyacheslav returned from abroad and stood up for the defense of the country. He fought for almost three years, resigned due to injuries. And now he climbed Everest. Margarita became the first woman from Kharkiv to climb Everest and Lhotse.” – explained the climber.

Sipavin has been conquering Everest since 2017 – this year’s summit was his eighth, while last year he climbed the mountain twice.
