Ukrainian commemorative coin “ Land of superheroes. Thanks to the doctors!” entered the top ten in the world
Commemorative coin “The land of superheroes. Thanks to the doctors!” won in the nomination “The most inspiring coin” and entered the top ten coins of the world according to the results of the international “Coin of the Year” competition. This is reported by the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine.
International contest “Coin of the year” annually organizes the authoritative numismatic publication World Coin News with the support of The Journal of East Asian Numismatics. In 2025, it was held for the 42nd time. The international jury chose the winners from among approximately 550 coins from 38 countries of the world, released in 2024.
“We are sincerely proud that the Ukrainian commemorative coin is once again among the best in the world. Work on the design of commemorative coins is always a thorough search for ideas, images, symbols, so that each coin is modern, resonates emotionally, and fits into the context. Therefore, the “birth” of a numismatic work is always a deep process of research and reflection. The commemorative coin “The land of superheroes. Thank you to the doctors!” is a symbol of gratitude and respect to our doctors. Their courage and self-sacrifice have become an inspiration for the world as well as for the whole of Ukraine,” said Andrii Pyshnyi, the Head of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Let us remind you, the coin “The country of superheroes. Thanks to the doctors!” put into circulation on July 26, 2024. It is dedicated to the selfless work of Ukrainian doctors who save lives and health every day both in the rear and on the front lines.
It is part of the series “ Immortal my Ukraine” and has a denomination of 5 hryvnias. It is made of nickel silver, the minting quality is special uncirculated, the weight is 16.5 g, the diameter is 35 mm. Circulation – up to 50 thousand copies.
The obverse shows a stylized strip of bandage with a blood stain in the shape of the outline of Ukraine – a symbol of the wound that hurts in the heart of every Ukrainian. Above is the inscription UKRAINE, to the right is a small State Coat of Arms, below the bandage is the denomination of 5 ₴ and the year of minting 2024, as well as the logo of the Banknote and Mint.
On the reverse, the composition is formed by crossed bandage strips that seem to cover the wound. It is covered by a doctor’s hand, symbolizing the dedication and professionalism of those who treat and save lives even in the most difficult conditions. Authors of the design are artists of the ArtTrium artistic group: Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, Serhiy Kharuk.
