Ukrainian farmers have sown almost 5 million hectares of winter crops

As of October 21, 2025, Ukrainian farmers had sown 4,833.9 thousand hectares of winter crops, which is 74% of the planned area. This was reported by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.

In particular, 3,443.6 thousand hectares of winter wheat, 300.3 thousand hectares of winter barley and 60 thousand hectares of winter rye were sown.

“Among the leaders in grain crops are Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad regions”, the ministry notes.

Poltava and Ternopil regions have already completed sowing. The area sown with winter rapeseed amounted to 1,030 thousand hectares, the largest in Vinnytsia, Odessa and Khmelnytskyi regions. Currently, farmers in 13 regions have completely completed its sowing.

As a reminder, Ukraine’s share in corn imports to the EU decreased to 17% compared to almost 50% last year. The reasons were the delay in the harvesting campaign and the caution of producers, which leads to the loss of key sales markets. Ukraine actually lost wheat markets in Asia and Africa, in particular about 70% of the Egyptian market, since the main export volumes were reoriented to Europe.

In the first two months of the 2025/26 marketing year, Ukraine exported 1.456 million tons of wheat, which is 28% less than in the same period last season, when the volumes were 2.026 million tons.
