Ukrainian national language model AI named “Syaivo” after vote in “Diya”
The national Ukrainian language model of artificial intelligence will be called “Syaivo”, this option was supported by users during the vote in the “Diya” application. This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation, together with Kyivstar, is working on creating a national language model of artificial intelligence in the LLM format, which was called “Syaivo”.
Previously, “Diya” held a vote, during which users were invited to choose a name for the Ukrainian LLM. The ministry noted that out of more than 3,000 proposed options, 10 names were selected for the final vote: “Syaivo”, “Pytay”, “Slovo”, “Zzvinka”, “Goverla”, “Shypit”, “Shukai”, “Yadro”, “Kavun” and “Homin”.
As a result, more than 136,000 Ukrainians took part in the voting in the application, and 22,000 of them voted for the name “Syaivo”.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs noted that “Syaivo” will become the basis for creating new digital products. Ukrainian LLM will be able to process data and automate processes in business, education, and defense.
In January 2026, the then Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced that in the spring they plan to bring the national LLM to the beta testing stage. According to him, Ukrainian developers will adapt Google’s Gemma model system to Ukrainian needs, and Kyivstar became the technical partner and sponsor of the development of Ukrainian AI.
At that time, Fedorov said that the language model is still in the development stage, and the Ministry of Digital Affairs cooperates with state bodies, media, universities, and other institutions and is already processing terabytes of data. He also emphasized that Ukraine sets itself the goal of becoming one of the three world leaders in the field of artificial intelligence development.
