Ukrainian specialists received training at the Japanese rehabilitation center in Hyogo Prefecture

Specialists of the Rivne Regional War Veterans Hospital completed a one-month internship at the Rehabilitation Center of Hyogo Prefecture (Japan) — a leading medical facility with more than 300 beds that combines rehabilitation and social services. About this informs press office of the Ministry of Health.

This training became part of an educational program implemented within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The program was developed by the Japanese side taking into account the needs of Ukrainian participants — in particular, the fact that specialists from the Rivne Hospital have experience working with patients who have suffered spinal cord injuries.

For four weeks, Ukrainian doctors studied rehabilitation methods for people with spinal cord injuries. The program included familiarization with injury rating scales, diagnosis and control of bladder and bowel functions, wheelchair mobility techniques, housing adaptation, rehabilitation of daily living skills, return to work, and driving training for patients with severe spinal cord injuries.

The participants not only imitated the practices of their Japanese colleagues, but also shared their own experiences, including the challenges of rehabilitation in wartime conditions. During the classes, an open professional exchange took place: clinical cases, prognosis assessment and approaches to patient recovery were discussed. This is already the second stage of the joint program of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and JICA. In March, the first group of Ukrainian doctors went to Japan – specialists from Ivano-Frankivsk were trained at that time.
