Ukrainians warned about mass mailing of fake letters on behalf of the State Tax Service
In recent days, fake emails have been sent out all over Ukraine on a massive scale, supposedly “on behalf of” the State Tax Service of Ukraine. This was reported by the acting head of the State Tax Service, Lesya Karnaukh.
“The subject of the email is a message about a “financial audit of a certain organization for money laundering.” I emphasize! The State Tax Service has nothing to do with this mailing, so we ask everyone to be careful,” emphasized Lesya Karnaukh.
The fake emails contain malware. Opening the attached file launches a program that gives attackers hidden access to the user’s personal computer. This creates a serious threat of virus infection. Such messages are sent from email addresses that have no connection with the official mailboxes of the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
The State Tax Service of Ukraine urges citizens not to open attachments in suspicious emails, to follow the rules of cyber hygiene, to be vigilant even when receiving messages from familiar recipients, since attackers can forge the sender’s address, and also, if possible, to check the authenticity of the emails, confirming the fact of their sending.
