US First Lady suggests using humanoid robots to teach children at home
US First Lady Melania Trump presented a futuristic concept of using humanoid robots as personal teachers during a summit at the White House. A robot developed by Figure AI appeared on stage with her and addressed the participants of the event. The summit brought together representatives of the government and leading technology corporations to discuss the integration of artificial intelligence into the education system.
Donald Trump’s wife described an innovative learning model, where the main role is played by a robot assistant called Plato. According to the plan, such a mechanical teacher will be able to provide a child with 24-hour access to educational materials in history, mathematics, literature and other disciplines. The system is able to independently adapt the complexity of the program to the individual needs of each individual student.
“This approach will allow children to receive personalized education directly at home, having constant access to the most modern knowledge,” Melania Trump noted.
The proposed model assumes that the robot will respond to the student’s requests in real time and support the learning process without the mandatory presence of a traditional teacher. The humanoid presented at the event left the hall after a brief demonstration of its capabilities, without taking part in the discussion part of the summit.
“The use of artificial intelligence in education is a logical step towards preparing the younger generation for life in the conditions of a new technological economy”, — emphasized a representative of the relevant ministry.
The idea of automating the educational process has been the subject of heated discussions in scientific and technological circles for several years. In the United States, there are already experimental institutions where part of the pedagogical load is taken on by intelligent systems. The US Department of Education has previously spoken favorably of such initiatives, viewing them as a means of increasing the competitiveness of future specialists.
Currently, Washington is in the process of forming special structures for closer cooperation with the private sector in the field of high-tech implementation. Despite the vivid presentation at the White House, specific state programs or deadlines for the mass introduction of robot teachers have not yet been announced.
