Verkhovna Rada supports increase in staff of the State Bureau of Investigation by 300 employees

The Verkhovna Rada adopted amendments to the law on the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), increasing its staff by 300 people. Previously, the maximum number of employees of the central office and territorial offices of the State Security Service was 1,600 people, and after the changes, this number will increase to 1,900.

Changes were made to Part 2 of Art. 9 of the Law on SBI due to the adoption of non-core law No. 10075, which grants specialists the authority of experts in criminal proceedings. According to this law, specialists will have the right to provide certificates that will be recognized as evidence in criminal cases, including weapons, explosives and drugs, without the need for an expert opinion.

Also earlier, the Verkhovna Rada, within the framework of Law No. 3886-IX on the “decriminalization” of petty theft, made changes to the pension provision of employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (draft law No. 11068). The changes relate to pension guarantees for the employees of the SBI, which provide for the right to early retirement for senior and rank-and-file employees. Such employees may retire earlier if they participate in hostilities, anti-terrorist operations, or activities related to the protection of Ukraine from aggression by the Russian Federation.
