Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of disrupting the peace regime and promised a response
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia had disrupted the ceasefire regime proposed by Kyiv, and announced further steps. He wrote about this on Telegram.
According to the head of state, despite the fact that Kyiv introduced a regime of silence from midnight on May 5 to 6, the Russian Armed Forces continued hostilities and shelling the next day – immediately after massive strikes on Ukrainian cities.
“In total, as of ten o’clock in the morning, the Russian army had committed 1,820 violations of the regime of silence – shelling, attempted assaults, air strikes, use of drones”, – Zelensky’s post says.
The president called such behavior by the Kremlin “an obvious refusal to silence and to save lives.”
“As of today, we state that the Russian side has violated the ceasefire. Based on the evening reports of our military and intelligence, we will decide on our further actions.Even with the Internet turned off and the communication of most Russians blocked, it is absolutely clear that their leadership can come out of the bunker and choose peace. The Russian side has our diplomatic proposals, and the only thing that is needed is Russia’s readiness to move towards real peace,” the president said.
Earlier, on May 4, Zelensky declared a regime of silence on the night of May 5-6, emphasizing that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will act “mirror” in the event of its violation by Russia. US President Donald Trump also suggested that Putin is not interested in ending the war.
The situation surrounding the ceasefire is escalating after Putin announced a three-day “ceasefire” on April 28 for May 8-11 to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II. Kyiv has rejected the logic of this initiative and is insisting on a full-fledged ceasefire lasting at least 30 days.
