Volodymyr Zelenskyy does not use Telegram for security reasons

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, does not use the Telegram messenger on his personal phone. About this informs The New York Times.
Although Zelensky has an official Telegram account with 710,000 subscribers, there is no such application on his personal device. The refusal of use is connected with security measures, the publication notes.
The report says that before the start of a full-scale invasion of Russia in 2022, Ukrainian intelligence warned the president about the possible risks of Russian influence through Telegram.
According to The New York Times, a large part of Telegram channels, which are formally owned by Ukrainians, are actually managed from the territory of Russia. These platforms have repeatedly spread misinformation, in particular, that Zelenskyi allegedly left the country at the beginning of the war.
The publication also reports that in 2024, during secret meetings on cyber security, the Ukrainian authorities discussed the possibility of introducing additional restrictions for Telegram in the context of national security.
