On September 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi accepted credentials from the newly appointed ambassadors of Cyprus – Michalis Firilas, Latvia – Andrejs Pildegovichs and Pakistan – Kanvar Adnan Ahmed Khan. reports this on the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

“During the conversation with the ambassador of Cyprus, the president thanked for supporting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, participation in the coalition of the willing, and financial and humanitarian assistance from his country”, the message says.

Zelensky and Firilas also discussed the issue of strengthening sanctions against Russia, food security, joint projects in the EU, the security situation in the region and interaction with partners, including in multilateral formats. One of the key topics was the future membership of Ukraine in the EU and the priorities of Cyprus during the presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of next year.

During the meeting with Latvian Ambassador Andrejs Pildegovichs, the development of the PURL initiative, which allows Ukraine to purchase weapons from the USA, and increasing pressure on Russia were discussed. The President also expressed his gratitude to Latvia for its assistance, in particular defense assistance.

“Latvia will become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council next year. The ambassador assured that his country will actively promote the interests of Ukraine at the United Nations platform. Particular attention is paid to humanitarian aid: the construction of shelters, the reconstruction of civilian infrastructure after Russian shelling, and the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers, the message says.

During the conversation with the ambassador of Pakistan, the president expressed his condolences to the people of the country due to the large-scale floods that took the lives of hundreds of people, and offered assistance. In addition, the parties discussed the development of bilateral relations in the spheres of defense and military-technical cooperation, as well as partnership in the fields of trade and food.
