Water in the Seimas and Desna is within normal limits: examination results
The Ministry of Environment constantly monitors the quality of water in the Seim and Desna rivers, more than 50 samples have been taken and sent to the laboratory for analysis. About this reported Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, on the TV channel TRC “Kyiv”.
According to him, the preliminary assessment of water quality showed that no exceeding levels of chemical or highly toxic substances were detected in the water of the Seym and Desna rivers. Pollution was detected by organic compounds.
Krasnolutskyi also noted that seven meetings of district and regional TEB and NA commissions were held in Kyiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions on the initiative of the State Inspectorate. Local residents were forbidden to use water from the rivers for technical needs, fishing and bathing.
A meeting of the State Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations is scheduled to determine further response steps. During the meeting, orders will be issued regarding the actions of each body of executive power and local self-government.
Krasnolutskyi expressed hope that the situation with water quality in the Seim and Desna rivers will improve in the coming days.
Earlier, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strelets, talked about the consequences of the pollution of the Seim River in the Sumy Oblast in the national marathon “Edyny Novyny”. He assured that there is no threat to the population’s drinking water supply, since water intake for drinking from the Seim and Desna rivers in Chernihiv and Sumy regions is not carried out. All services are working to protect the population from possible negative consequences.
