What help will Ukrainians in Denmark no longer be able to receive?
The Giv en cykel initiative has been active in Denmark for almost two years. This is a charitable movement thanks to which used bicycles were given to all willing Ukrainian refugees. However, the organizers of Giv en cykel are worried that the initiative will have to be stopped due to a lack of resources.
Project launched in 2022 with the support of the Ministry of Transport, Cyklistforbundet, AstraZeneca and the Tryg Foundation. However, currently the money allocated to finance Giv en cykel has run out.
The initiative was to connect Danes who want to give a used but repaired bicycle to Ukrainians who want to switch to Rovers. Those who wanted to donate two-wheeled vehicles took photos of bicycles and filled out questionnaires on a special platform. Also, the initiative collected donations to support the work of the project and the purchase of used rovers, repair of vehicles.
In particular, as part of the initiative, the rovers were equipped with reflectors, flashlights, locks and other details.
Thanks to the Giv en cykel project, more than three thousand Ukrainian refugees in Denmark were able to receive bicycles. The leader of the initiative, Orberg Krag, says that several hundred Ukrainians are still waiting for the rovers. There are also willing Danes who are going to hand over bicycles to refugees. However, funding is needed to support the project. Krag hopes that he will still be able to find investors and that the Giv en cykel initiative will continue to work.
So far, more than 40,000 Ukrainians have received asylum in Denmark. It is a country with one of the highest indicators of social security for refugees.
