Zelensky signs decree on humanitarian aid to Czech Republic after floods
Ukraine will provide humanitarian aid to the Czech Republic to overcome the consequences of a large-scale flood that resulted from devastating downpours in September. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy decreed this signed October 7. Although the document does not specify the specific amount of assistance, responsibility for its organization and provision is assigned to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The natural disaster that engulfed part of the Czech Republic was the result of heavy downpours caused by storm “Boris”. In mid-September, powerful water flows swept away houses and other infrastructure in the border regions of the Czech Republic, particularly on the border with Poland. The flood caused significant damage to the local population and economy.
Ukraine demonstrates solidarity with the affected countries of Europe in the fight against natural disasters. Back in September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga, said that Ukraine is ready to help several countries affected by severe floods. This initiative arose on the instructions of President Zelenskyi and in coordination with the Prime Minister. At that time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered help not only to the Czech Republic, but also to other states, including Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary.
