Zelenskyy instructed the SBU to find out who passed information on the draft agreement with the United States on subsoil: Financial Times
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed the Security Service of Ukraine to conduct an investigation into the leak of information about the draft agreement with the United States, which provides for priority access of American companies to all types of Ukrainian minerals. About this writes publication of the Financial Times with reference to its own sources.
According to the material, investigators check officials from various departments, in particular with the help of a polygraph. The sources do not say exactly how many people are being checked.
The President’s office declined to comment to the FT. The Security Service of Ukraine only stated that they act within the limits of current legislation to protect national security, and the details of the work are not disclosed.
At the end of March, the draft agreement appeared in the public domain — its existence was announced by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, citing his own sources. According to him, the document is not yet final, and the voiced proposals reflect the US position as of March 23.
As the deputy noted, the American side proposed a model in which the majority in the governing bodies of the subsurface fund should belong to the United States (three out of five representatives with the right of veto). We are talking about all types of minerals, both explored and new. Each investment project will first be offered specifically to American partners. There is no mention of security guarantees for Ukraine in the project.
We will remind, during the briefing on March 28, Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly expressed his surprise that people’s deputies have information about the agreement, which he himself has not yet seen:
“I wonder how they already know everything. I have not read the text yet, but the parliament already has detailed information. I want to find out who gave it to them. It’s really interesting. I want to find out for myself.” – said the president.
