Zelenskyy will come to Gdansk despite diplomatic disputes surrounding UPA heroes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will participate in the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine 2026, which will be held on June 25-26 in Gdansk. This was reported by a source in the Polish government.

According to the source, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a note from the Ukrainian side regarding the participation of the head of state in the event. Previously, Zelensky’s visit to Poland remained in question amid the discussion between Kyiv and Warsaw regarding the name of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine in honor of the heroes of the UPA.

A few days ago, Ukrainian MP Mykyta Poturayev stated that the head of state plans to attend the conference.

“There are such plans, and I know that we all plan to come. Although I cannot speak on his (Ukrainian President’s) behalf,” Poturayev emphasized.

Now, a source in the Polish government has confirmed the information about the participation of the President of Ukraine in the event.

The Polish Government Commissioner for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, Pawel Kowal, previously emphasized that the conference is a joint initiative of Poland and Ukraine, so both sides are interested in holding it.

Up to five thousand guests are expected to attend the forum, including heads of state, government officials and business representatives. Poland will host this event for the first time. Previously, conferences on the reconstruction of Ukraine were held in Lugano, Berlin, London and Rome.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously stated that he expects Volodymyr Zelenskyy to come to Gdansk despite the existing differences in bilateral relations. The conference should become one of the key international platforms for discussing the future reconstruction of Ukraine.
