‘24 hours to stop the terror”: German opposition leader proposes to give Putin an ultimatum
The leader of the German opposition, the head of the Christian Democratic Union and candidate for the position of chancellor, Friedrich Merz, took the initiative to force Russia to stop bombing the civilian population of Ukraine by means of an ultimatum.
During his speech in the Bundestag, the video of which was shared on the X network, Merz offered to give Russian President Vladimir Putin 24 hours to stop the attacks. In the event that the Kremlin refuses to comply with this demand, the politician calls for providing Ukraine with long-range weapons, in particular Taurus missiles, the supply of which is currently blocked by the current Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz.
Mertz also accused Scholz of “Ukraine being forced to fight with limited capabilities” and urged him to overcome his fear of Russia’s nuclear threats in order to end the brutality in Ukraine. He reminded that similar mistakes were made in 2014, and it cannot be repeated.
According to opinion polls, the Christian Democratic Union has a strong chance of winning next year’s elections, giving Mertz a chance to become Germany’s new chancellor.
