A monument to a police colonel who died as a result of Russian shelling was unveiled in Kharkiv

A monument to police colonel Oleksandr Ivanov, who was killed during Russian shelling, was opened in Kharkiv. About this informs press service of the police of the Kharkiv region.

Oleksandr Ivanov, who held the position of deputy head of the department of preventive activities, devotedly served the Ukrainian people for more than two decades. On the night of April 4, 2024, during an air alert, he and his colleagues arrived at the site of a drone strike in the Novobavar district of Kharkiv. Law enforcement officers assisted the injured and recorded the consequences of the attack.

40 minutes after the first explosion, Russian forces struck again. Three rescuers died on the spot, and Colonel Ivanov suffered life-threatening injuries. He was only one day away from his 45th birthday. The memorial ceremony was attended by relatives of the deceased, his friends, colleagues, the leadership of the Kharkiv police and representatives of local authorities. All gathered honored the memory of the officer who died in the line of duty.

Petro Tokar, head of the National Police Headquarters in the Kharkiv region, noted that the act of Colonel Ivanov is an example of courage, sacrifice and loyalty to the Oath, which will forever remain in the memory of police officers. The monument was installed in the police unit where Ivanov served. It became a sign of deep respect for the courage with which the officer carried out his mission even in the face of mortal danger.
