A network of Russian agents hunting for F-16s was exposed in Ukraine

Security Service of Ukraine eliminated a large-scale agency network of Russian military intelligence, the task of which was to identify the bases of F-16 fighter jets. The perpetrators carried out espionage activities in five regions of Ukraine.

As a result of the special operation, 12 Russian agents and their informants were exposed. Among them are deserters who voluntarily left their units of the Armed Forces and were recruited by the Russian special services while hiding from justice.

Enemy agents worked autonomously and were subordinate to the head of the agent group, which operated on the territory of the Dnipro region. To cover up, he used false documents, including “volunteer” and “anti-corruption activist” certificates. He involved accomplices from the Zaporizhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv and Odesa regions in his activities.

In these regions, the agents were engaged in collecting intelligence information about the fire positions of the Ukrainian air defense and tried to identify secret military airfields where, according to the Russian special services, F-16s could be located.

During the searches, mobile phones, flash drives, military documents and fake IDs were seized from the detainees. SBU investigators have already charged them with treason under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code) and unauthorized dissemination of information about the Armed Forces (Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code).

Currently, measures are being taken to identify and bring to justice all participants of the agent network. Perpetrators face from 8 years of imprisonment to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
