A record number of electric cars were imported into Ukraine: which brands are the most popular

Despite the problem with electricity supply, the popularity of electric cars in Ukraine is growing. This year, a record number of such cars were imported into the country. During January-May, 20,785 electric cars were imported. This is twice as much as during the first five months of 2023.

On the other hand, in view of the announced increase in the price of diesel fuel and gasoline, such a trend is fully justified.
So, for example, in May, the car fleet of Ukraine was replenished with 5.8 thousand cars with diesel engines, which is 14% less than last year. Currently, electric cars make up about 13% of the total number of cars imported into Ukraine.

“Among all electric cars, TESLA is in the greatest demand among Ukrainians – 4,742 cars. VOLKSWAGEN is in second place: 3,194 electric cars, and NISSAN closes the top three – 3,034 electric cars. The most popular models among “electric cars” are NISSAN LEAF, TESLA MODEL 3 and VOLKSWAGEN ID.4″, – analysts of the Opendatabot portal note.

As for the regional distribution, the leaders in terms of the number of imported cars with an electric engine are currently the Lviv region, the city of Kyiv, and Odesa.

It is worth noting that during the first four months of 2024, 133,000 motor vehicles (new and used) with a total value of 2.1 billion dollars were imported into the country. The largest share of these imports was made up of passenger cars, of which 118,100 were imported, worth more than 1.5 billion dollars.

In second place were trucks — 15,181 units, worth $460.3 million. Special-purpose vehicles (such as mobile cranes, concrete mixers, tow trucks, etc.) were imported at 325 units worth $53 million.

Import of buses for the same period amounted to 302 units. Their total cost was $14.6 million.
