A student of a lyceum in Transcarpathia collected funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine on TikTok, and spent it on himself: the court issued a verdict
The Khust District Court of Zakarpattia Oblast ruled sentence in case No. 309/4392/23 regarding a student of the Khust Vocational Lyceum, who in January 2023 created a TikTok account and posted a video clip about fundraising to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the case file, the young man collected funds for a card intended for receiving a scholarship, assuring people that all the collected funds would be used to purchase equipment for Ukrainian soldiers.
Unfortunately, the young man turned out to be a fraud and instead of helping the Armed Forces, he spent the collected funds on his own needs. It is known about at least five victims who transferred to him sums from 300 to 1005 hryvnias.
Although the young man had not been convicted before, the court found him guilty of fraud under Art. 190 ch. 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Instead of imprisonment, the court awarded him a fine of 8,500 hryvnias.
In addition to the fine, the court ordered the destruction of the bank card and SIM card used in the fraud, and the return of the mobile phone seized as physical evidence to the owner.
