A Ukrainian language support program was approved in Kharkiv

At the session of the Kharkiv City Council, which took place on August 19, the deputies adopted a new one program development of the Ukrainian language for 2024-2028. This program is aimed at strengthening the position of the Ukrainian language in the city and includes a number of measures to popularize and support its use.

According to the program, it is planned to:

  • Organization of festivals, contests, exhibitions and themed evenings aimed at popularizing the Ukrainian language among different segments of the population.
  • Replenishing the funds of city libraries with literature in the Ukrainian language, which will allow greater access to quality Ukrainian-language books.
  • Introduction of bookcrossing in public places to stimulate the exchange of books and reading in the Ukrainian language.
  • Creation of media products dedicated to Ukrainian culture and history, to increase the awareness of Kharkiv residents about national values.
  • Monetary incentives for the winners of the All-Ukrainian Olympiads in Ukrainian language and literature to support young talents and encourage them to learn their native language.

The Department of Education of the city noted that the implementation of this program will contribute to increasing the prestige of the use of the Ukrainian language, strengthening its role as a means of strengthening state unity and protecting the national linguistic and cultural space. The program also aims to strengthen the Ukrainian language as an important element of national identity and promote its development in all areas of the city’s life.
