Volunteers from 75 countries of the world have joined the units of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On average, about 600 foreigners sign a contract every month. This was reported by Konstantyn Milevsky, Deputy Head of the Coordination Department for Military Service by Foreigners.
“It’s a little colder now. People from warm countries don’t go very much. We can take up to 50 people out of these 600. When it gets warmer, there will be a little more. But we are talking about an average figure,” he noted.
According to Milevsky, in total, more than 10 thousand foreign volunteers at different times served or continue to serve in the units of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“We are not trying to attract more people to the ranks of the Armed Forces than we will pay attention to them. What is attention? This is training, combat coordination, equipping them with weapons and uniforms. You can, of course, increase the number to a conditional thousand, one and a half and ten, but if there is no one to deal with these people, there will be no result», — explained Milevsky.
Foreign military personnel also serve in the units of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the National Guard. Formally, they have the same rights and obligations as citizens of Ukraine. At the same time, one of the differences is the ability to terminate the contract at their own discretion after six months of service.
In November 2025, the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the introduction of a new model of service for foreigners. It provides for expanded opportunities, in particular the right to choose a combat brigade, direction of service and specifics of application.
