After the trial, Trukhanov called the SBU’s accusations about his Russian citizenship “fake”

The Cassation Administrative Court is considering the case of former Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov, who is demanding to declare illegal and cancel decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on the termination of his Ukrainian citizenship.

The court ruled that by July 9, 2026, the Security Service of Ukraine must provide evidence and explanations that would confirm that Trukhanov has Russian citizenship. The next hearing was scheduled for July 28. The defendant in the case is Volodymyr Zelensky, and representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine, the State Migration Service of Ukraine, and the SBU also attended the hearing.

Trukhanov called the decree on the termination of citizenship a “provocation” and stated that it had been checked for almost 11 years.

“For all people in Ukraine, everyone who is more or less familiar with this case, for all first-year students, it is clear that this is a “fake”. Why people who are responsible for making a decision or correcting this mistake or provocation do not understand this, I do not understand. Almost the entire country understands that this is all a fake, falsification, and a crime. So why should we distract the court and the people today? ”, he noted.

After the termination of Ukrainian citizenship, Trukhanov automatically lost the post of mayor. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy created the Odessa City Military Administration, headed by Serhiy Lysak. The Secretary of the City Council Ihor Koval became the acting mayor of Odessa.

Separately, Trukhanov appears in the case of official negligence after large-scale flooding in Odessa on September 29-30, 2025, which killed 10 people. The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court extended his procedural obligations, including wearing an electronic bracelet and a ban on leaving Odessa and the Odessa region without the permission of the court.

The further course of the case will depend on the materials that the SBU must submit to the court and the positions of the parties at the meeting on July 28.
