Ukraine plans to introduce the post of military ombudsman: Umerov
The position of military ombudsman will be created in Ukraine, which will deal with the protection of the rights of military personnel. Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov said this during a briefing held on November 18, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“We worked on proposing a military ombudsman. We focused this year to work out how many complaints and lawsuits there were (if I’m not mistaken, several thousand, we worked it out). Currently, we are already preparing several candidates to make an announcement about who will be the military ombudsman.” , – said Umerov.
The minister noted that the agency strives to “protect the rights of military personnel.” In particular, Rustem Umyerov emphasized the importance of cooperation with the Supreme Council of Justice, other law enforcement agencies, as well as with the Main Inspection of the Ministry of Defense to achieve this goal.
“We are working in this direction, and in the near future there will be relevant announcements”, – added the head of the defense department.
In September 2023, Umerov already announced the possibility of creating a new position – the military ombudsman.
“We’re going to focus on human lives, we’re going to focus on our people. And that’s why we’re probably going to introduce a new position called a military ombudsman to look after the military needs of the people and our soldiers.”, – he said at the annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) in Kyiv.
