An international competition for the restoration of Northern Saltivka in Kharkiv was announced

The Norman Foster Foundation has announced an international architectural competition, the Kharkiv Housing Challenge, to develop the best ideas for the reconstruction of residential quarters in Northern Saltivka, the district of Kharkiv most affected by the war.

The winners of the competition will receive not only monetary awards, but also the opportunity to bring their concepts to life. Their projects will be used in the development of construction plans, which will be carried out together with local residents.
Contest participants are offered:
- Develop a modular system that will allow for the modernization of existing concrete prefab houses and the improvement of public spaces.
- Create safe, energy-efficient and comfortable residential quarters.
- Take into account the possibility of using the first floors of buildings to accommodate various objects.
- Integrate bomb shelters into building projects.
The competition consists of two stages:
- At the first stage, participants must submit their concepts by September 12, 2024. The winners of the first stage will be announced on September 26, 2024.
- In the second stage, the winners of the first stage will finalize their projects taking into account the recommendations of the jury and together with local residents.
