At least 27 people died in Mexico due to heavy rains (video)
At least 27 people have been killed and several others are missing after heavy rains triggered landslides in Mexico. This is reported by Reuters.
Heavy rainfall caused landslides, power outages and overflowing rivers in several states. In the state of Hidalgo, 16 people were killed, and about 1,000 homes and hundreds of schools were damaged, civil defense officials said. The governor of Puebla, Alejandro Armenta, said that as a result of the landslides and other extraordinary events, at least nine people have died, and five more are missing. In addition, authorities recorded two deaths in the state of Veracruz.
President Claudia Scheinbaum said the government was evacuating people, clearing roads and restoring power, and released pictures of rescue workers wading through flooded streets. The Ministry of Defense has engaged more than 5,400 military personnel to assist in the evacuation, monitoring, and elimination of the effects of bad weather.
Currently tropical storms “Raymond” and “Priscilla” continue to bring rain to the Baja California peninsula and the west coast of the country, and meteorologists warn of the risk of more landslides and flooding in the coming days.
