Chief Justice of the Supreme Court reports an alarming trend of increasing cases of SGBV
Ukraine is witnessing an increase in cases of unauthorised abandonment of military units, desertion and failure to comply with orders. This was announced by Chief Justice Stanislav Kravchenko, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
‘I can’t give you specific figures, but there is a significant trend towards an increase in unauthorised abandonment of units,’ Kravchenko said.
He added that the statistics that sometimes appear in the media are somewhat higher than the actual data. Nevertheless, he admitted that the situation is threatening.
Kravchenko also expressed concern about the factors that may be contributing to these cases.
‘There should be mobilisation and a general order, but look at the negative coverage on the TV channels, they have invented ‘busification’….. There are questions about patriotic education… it is also necessary to stimulate the military with the same salary,’ he added.
Given the current challenges, the government is stepping up measures to improve mobilisation discipline. The Cabinet of Ministers is intensifying the procedure for imposing temporary restrictions on service evaders, including deprivation of the right to drive vehicles. The Ministry of Defence announced that the MCC, the SBU and intelligence agencies will now exchange data with the National Police to better monitor evaders. The amendments are aimed at simplifying the procedure for judicial proof of mobilisation evasion, which will allow for the imposition of sanctions on such persons in the form of temporary restrictions on driving.
