Ukrainian banks have financed the development of energy generation with a capacity of over 1.2 GW
Ukrainian banks, within the framework of the implementation of the memorandum on readiness to finance the restoration of energy infrastructure damaged as a result of massive attacks by the Russian Federation, have financed business projects aimed at developing electricity generation with a total capacity of 1.239 GW. This was reported by the NBU press service.
According to the survey, from June 1, 2024 to November 1, 2025, they also provided financing for energy storage and heat production projects with a total capacity of 434 MW.
Overall, during this period, banks provided financing for energy projects in 21 regions of Ukraine for a total amount of UAH 32.2 billion. Of these, over 2,000 loans worth UAH 30.2 billion were issued to businesses and over 12,000 loans worth UAH 2 billion to individuals.
As of November 1, the gross portfolio of “energy” loans amounted to UAH 20 billion for legal entities and UAH 1.6 billion for individuals.
The energy sector has been identified as one of the priority areas within the framework of the Lending Development Strategy developed by the National Bank jointly with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine and the Ministry of Finance. As part of this strategy, the National Bank has implemented a number of measures to stimulate lending to key sectors of the economy.
In particular, to encourage financing of energy projects, the requirements for banks to assess credit risks have been revised and the coefficients for taking into account the value of energy equipment when accepting it as collateral for relevant loans have been increased.
