Demining continues: sappers of the Ministry of Defense have neutralized more than 374,000 explosive objects
The liberated territories of Ukraine remain dangerous, because fields, forests and roads are contaminated with a large number of explosive objects. According to various estimates, it will take tens of years and billions of funds for complete demining after the war. However, the process of disarming mines, grenades and other munitions has been actively ongoing since 2022. During this time, sappers of the Ministry of Defense neutralized more than 374,000 explosive objects.
Only during the past week, bomb technicians neutralized 2,374 mines, grenades and other types of explosives. Sappers of the Ministry of Defense examined 4.1 thousand hectares of terrain, more than 4 thousand hectares of agricultural land, about a hectare of residential plots and 1 kilometer of highways.
The work is carried out with the involvement of special equipment for mechanized demining. In particular, we are talking about the latest technologies developed in Ukraine and provided by international partners.
For example, the Swiss-German company GCS (Global Clearance Solutions) and its unmanned demining complex have already proven themselves as a reliable and effective tool in more than 40 countries around the world. Today, 34 GCS platforms are operating in Ukraine, which are used by both military sappers and employees of the State Emergency Service.
One of the latest achievements of Ukrainian developers was the MV-4 sapper robot. This light robotic complex is designed for demining and disposal of explosive objects.
In April, the MV-4 was tested at test sites. Its effectiveness does not decrease when working on earth, gravel or sand. The machine continues to perform its functions even after entering the explosion zone, if the explosive object contains up to 600 grams of TNT.
