The Verkhovna Rada opened meetings of committees for journalists and the community

On January 14, the Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 11321, which opens parliamentary committee meetings for media representatives, journalists, and public organizations. This step is aimed at strengthening the transparency of the parliament’s activities and providing citizens with access to information, informs People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

“The Council supported draft law No. 11321 on amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding the strengthening of some guarantees of media activity, journalists and citizens’ access to information”. – says the message.

286 People’s Deputies voted for the adoption of the draft law. According to the innovations, journalists and members of the public will be able to participate in open committee meetings, even if they are held via video conference. The obligation to inform about the agenda of the meetings in advance is also introduced – at least 24 hours before their start.

This draft law is part of an initiative aimed at increasing the level of transparency of parliamentary activity, strengthening democratic principles in the work of the Verkhovna Rada, and creating conditions for increasing public control. It also expands the media’s right to access information, making government processes more open to the public.
