During the year, the transportation of grain through Hungarian railway crossings decreased by 57%

During the period from January to November 2024, the volume of grain transportation through railway crossings between Ukraine and Hungary decreased by 57%. This is more than half less than the previous year. The total volume of cargo transferred through these crossings has also decreased significantly. About this informs Rail.insider.

The information was announced during an online meeting between JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” and Hungarian carriers. In total, during this period, 2.63 million tons of cargo were transported through border crossings, which is 36% less than in the same period of 2023. The decrease in volumes affected both main railway crossings.

1.801 million tons were transported through the crossing Batyovo – Epereshke, which is 40% less compared to the previous year. At the Chop – Zahon crossing, the volume was 829,000. tons, which shows a decrease of 26%.

The biggest decline was recorded in the transportation of grain: in 11 months of 2024, only 806,000 tons were transported. tons, which is 57% less than in 2023. Transportation of iron ore also decreased significantly — to 888,000 tons. tons, which is 29% less compared to last year.

At the same time, the situation with cement remained relatively stable. During the specified period, 220,000 tons were transported. tons, which is only 1% less than in 2023.
