Europeans are skeptical of Ukraine’s victory: a study by the European Council on International Relations
Among all European countries, Italy turned out to be the largest state from which Ukraine received the least support.
While the majority of Ukrainians continue to believe in victory over Russia, Europeans are more skeptical – the majority do not believe that the Armed Forces will win on the battlefield. These were the results of a study by the European Council on International Relations (ECFR), which was conducted in Ukraine and 14 EU countries, write edition of Politico.
Thus, 58% of Ukrainians called the victory of their country the most likely option for the end of the war, 30% claim that the war will be settled. And only 1% believe that the Russian army will win.
At the same time, among the 14 member states of the European Union in which the survey was conducted, only in Estonia did the majority of respondents (38%) express their belief that Ukraine will win unconditionally. In general, from a third to a half of the respondents believe that the war will end with a peaceful settlement.
The majority of respondents in Sweden and Poland believe that Europe should help Ukraine fight for the liberation of its entire territory. At the same time, the majority in Italy (53%), Greece (54%) and Bulgaria (63%) do not support this idea, believing that increasing the supply of weapons to Ukraine is a bad idea. In general, Italy turned out to be the largest country in Europe that supported Ukraine the least.
In another group of countries, which includes the Czech Republic, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland, there is no national consensus on the war and the role of the EU. No country, even a belligerent one, intends to send troops to Ukraine.
Also, Europeans do not have a unanimous opinion on the admission of Ukraine to the EU. Portugal, Estonia, Sweden, Spain and Poland are the most in favor of it, and Germany, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and France are the most skeptical.
