France plans to recognize the social network X Mask as a platform with pornographic content
The French government plans to officially recognize the social network X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk, as a platform with pornographic content. About this informsPolitician.
In the event of such a decision, the social network will be obliged to implement a strict system of verification of the age of users, like other porn sites operating on the territory of France.
“X has been allowing the distribution of pornographic content since 2024. Accordingly, it should be classified as a porn site,” – noted in the office of the Minister of Digital Technologies of France Clara Chappaz.
The Schappaz team is tasked with “examining the purpose of X in the decree on pornographic sites that must verify the age of their users.” During an appearance on the French television program Quotidien, the minister said that soon X will receive “the same good papers as YouPorn” – that is, the order to either limit the distribution of adult content or implement mandatory age verification.
France has already taken measures to strengthen the protection of children on the Internet: all sites with adult content operating in the country were required by June 7 to implement mechanisms for verifying the age of users. If these requirements are not met, platforms may be fined, removed from search results, or blocked entirely.
It will be recalled that in July 2023, Indonesia blocked X.com in accordance with laws prohibiting gambling and pornographic content in the country.
