German Foreign Minister declares ‘decisive winter’ for Russian-Ukrainian war
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful stressed the need for strong support for Ukraine from allies and called the coming winter “decisive”. He made the statement after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels, reports German public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk.
“This winter is crucial. Ukraine must remain capable of defending itself, emphasized Johann Wadeful.
After talks with the NATO Secretary General, Wadeful noted that Europe and NATO are “strong when they act as one.” That is why the allies are increasing assistance to Ukraine. The minister called on Western partners for decisive support, both in the military sphere and in the energy sector, which is constantly under Russian attack. According to him, Ukraine can count on Germany at any time.
At the same time, NATO is warning of a possible deterioration in the energy situation in Ukraine due to Russia’s constant attacks on critical infrastructure. Since the Russian Federation actively uses strike drones, it needs fewer strategic pauses to stockpile ammunition for long-range aviation, which allows it to maintain a high rate of attacks throughout the winter.
As a reminder, on October 24, the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” discussed “mobilizing all forces so that Ukraine can survive this winter”.
