In Germany, five people died due to New Year’s fireworks
Five people died in Germany due to careless use of fireworks and homemade pyrotechnics. About this informs Deutsche Welle citing police reports.
Among the dead are men aged between 20 and 50. One of them, a 24-year-old resident of North Rhine-Westphalia, was killed by an explosion of fireworks on a field. According to preliminary data, the explosion could have been caused by an improvised device, the investigation is ongoing.
Two deaths were also recorded in Saxony. In the city of Ošac, a 45-year-old man suffered a serious head injury after exploding a category F4 firework, prohibited for use without a special permit. The victim died in hospital. In the city of Debeln, a 50-year-old man died on the spot due to injuries received from the explosion of a homemade pyrotechnic product.
Among the youngest victims are a 20-year-old resident of Hamburg and a 21-year-old resident of Kremmen in Brandenburg. Several incidents have also occurred in this region, resulting in severe burns to three victims.
In Berlin, several people lost fingers or parts of their hands due to misfired fireworks. In Munich, three children were injured, and in Rostock, a ten-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries when a firework exploded in front of his face.
