In Kyiv, in the 2025/2026 academic year, they plan to double the recruitment of drone operators. More than 100 people will master this modern and in-demand profession, which is becoming more and more relevant both in wartime and in peacetime. More than 30 million hryvnias from the city budget have already been allocated to the development of the educational program. About this informs press service of the Kyiv City State Administration.
The profession of the operator of unmanned aerial vehicles, which was formed in the conditions of a full-scale war, is rapidly expanding the scope of application in the civilian sector as well. Currently, drones are actively used in agriculture, protection of objects, search and rescue operations in hard-to-reach areas, during demining, for environmental monitoring and in fighting fires.
More than 2 million drones have been produced in Ukraine over the past year, and the demand for qualified specialists in their management is constantly growing. Increasing the number of study places is a response to this need, as well as a strategic investment for the future.
The training of drone operators in Kyiv began in 2023 as part of an innovative nationwide educational project. Currently, 54 students are studying in this specialty, the first graduation is expected in 2026.
For the high-quality conduct of the educational process, the material and technical base was modernized: a capital repair of 750 square meters of educational premises was carried out in the amount of 10.5 million hryvnias, and modern equipment was purchased for 19.9 million hryvnias. The total volume of financing from the city budget is 30.4 million hryvnias.
