In the Chernihiv region, men poisoned pensioners and people with disabilities for apartments

In Chernihiv Oblast, two men deceived lonely pensioners and people with disabilities for several years, took possession of their homes, and then poisoned them. The suspects were detained while trying to poison another victim, informs National Police.
The investigation established that the 44-year-old and 34-year-old local residents found people in a difficult life situation, invited them to drink alcohol together, and then added dangerous substances to the drinks, including methyl alcohol and powerful drugs.
The men convinced the victims to issue power of attorney for real estate management. After receiving these documents, they injected lethal doses of poison into alcoholic beverages. The police exposed the criminals and rescued a 66-year-old visually impaired man who could become the next victim.
During the searches, bottles with dangerous alcohol-containing substances, powerful drugs, numerous documents (powers of attorney, wills, contracts), pension certificates, bank cards, mobile phones, as well as a rifle and a shotgun with cartridges were seized from the suspects.
The investigation charged the suspects with attempted murder for selfish motives and large-scale fraud in accordance with part 3 of article 15, points 6 and 12 of part 2 of article 115 and part 4 of article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face imprisonment for 10 to 15 years or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
