In Transcarpathia, a commander was exposed who left the military in the rear for bribes: DBR
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation together with the Security Service of Ukraine exposed the battalion commander of one of the military units, who organized a corruption scheme, receiving money from subordinates for the opportunity to stay and serve in the rear in Transcarpathia.
According to the plans, part of the personnel was to be sent to the unit performing tasks in the combat zone, and the rest – to remain in Western Ukraine. The commander took advantage of the situation and offered the servicemen to pay in order to avoid redeployment to the front. For the implementation of this scheme, he engaged a trusted military officer, who was tasked with collecting funds from subordinates.
Law enforcement officers documented the transfer of $1,300 to one of the soldiers in exchange for leaving him behind. Other servicemen also paid for a place in the guard company, and the details of these facts are currently being established.
According to preliminary investigation data, the commander’s confidant received 300,000 hryvnias in his bank accounts, as well as about 30,000 US dollars in cash.
On September 20, the battalion commander and his accomplice were detained while handing over another amount. They were charged with receiving an illegal benefit under Part 5 of Art. 27 and Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years with confiscation of property.
The court chose a preventive measure for both detainees — detention. The investigation is ongoing, law enforcement officers are establishing other facts of illegal activity and a complete list of persons involved in the corruption scheme.
Procedural management in the case is carried out by the Transcarpathian Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Western region.
