In Ukraine, a directory of military specialties for employment of veterans was presented
The Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine within the project “Toward” presented a guide designed to help veterans integrate into the civilian labor market, and employers – better to realize the value of military experience. The project is implemented jointly with Work.ua.
The guide will be useful for several groups: employers — to adequately assess the skills of candidates with a military background and correctly create vacancies; veterans themselves and their family members — for structuring their own competencies, preparing resumes and conducting interviews; as well as career consultants and employment specialists — as a practical tool for working with military experience.
When creating the guide, international approaches were taken into account, in particular the practice of the USA and Great Britain, the Ukrainian peculiarities of the service, which include personnel military, mobilized and volunteers, as well as official documents of the General Staff and the work of Veteran Hub and ArmiyaInfo. On this basis, a glossary and algorithms are drawn up, which help to “translate” military skills into comprehensible business competencies. It should become a kind of bridge between the army, state structures and employers.
Deputy Minister of Veteran Affairs of Ukraine Yuliya Kirillova recalled that cooperation with Work.ua began with research into barriers that arise during the employment of veterans. The next stage was the “Toward” project, which made it possible to publish vacancies with a preference for candidates with military experience.
The continuation of the initiative was the “Career of a Veteran” platform, launched this year. It unites employers and veterans: all vacancies marked “job for a veteran” are automatically duplicated from Work.ua, and users registered in the EDRWV get additional opportunities to create a resume taking into account both civilian and military experience. Artificial intelligence algorithms help adapt military skills to civilian professional counterparts.
