In Ukraine, the first meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on reforming the field of prosthetics was held, which was attended by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity, representatives of other departments, public organizations, prosthetic enterprises, charitable foundations, and people’s deputies. This is reports the press service of the Ministry of Health.

“Today we are talking not only about individual point solutions, but about the creation of a complete system of prosthetics and rehabilitation. One of the tasks is to describe the patient’s route from the moment of amputation to full recovery, identify weak points and remove barriers. This requires coordinated actions of various departments. Only in this way can we prepare a realistic road map and enshrine it in state decisions. It is important for me that the system is not reactive, and predictable and sustainable — so that everyone who needs prosthetics has access to modern technologies, qualified specialists and full support at all stages of recovery,” said Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko.

The goal of the working group is to develop practical solutions for the modernization of the prosthetics system. Every year, about 11,000 people receive help under the state program, but the need is constantly growing. The main problems remain the lack of a single patient route, lack of qualified prosthetists, excessive bureaucracy, non-transparent pricing system and uneven access to services in different regions.

The Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity, Denys Ulyutin, emphasized that joint work should lead to the creation of a modern system of prosthetics focused on human needs, and also emphasized the importance of investments in the training of specialists, infrastructure development, and ensuring equal access to services throughout the country.

“The result of our joint work should be a new system of prosthetics – modern and accessible to everyone, in every region. Built around human needs. But first we have to recognize the problems and jointly work out solutions that will give results”, – added Denys Ulyutin.

During the next two weeks, the participants will work in four subgroups: coordination of medical and social systems, training and certification, quality monitoring, and issues of pricing and procurement. Based on the results, proposals for the updated regulatory framework will be prepared.
