“It is very right that people leave to save themselves for the sake of the state.” Zelensky on the withdrawal of the Armed Forces from Vuhledar (video)

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi called the decision on the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Vugledar correct, as it made it possible to save the lives of the military. He stated this during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Kyiv, reports the correspondent of Ukrinform.

“Without appropriate weapons, we cannot stop the Russian Federation. Then, when they destroy the positions of our fighters, we must protect their lives, because they are more important than any buildings. These are our people, they are citizens of Ukraine. Therefore, it is very right that they leave and can save themselves. For the sake of the state, for the sake of their heroic service. These are absolutely correct steps.” – said Zelensky, answering a question about the reasons for leaving Vugledar.

The President once again appealed to international partners to provide Ukraine “the ability to deter Russia with the help of various types of weapons, to allow the use of the necessary systems and to provide them”. He also noted that there is currently a delay in the supply of weapons.

“Ukraine needs to strengthen its positions on the front, so that we can get increased pressure on Russia for the sake of real, fair diplomacy. Therefore, we need a sufficient number and quality of weapons, including long-range weapons, with which, in my opinion, the partners are already dragging their feet.” – said the President.

For information Ukrinform, the higher command made a decision to withdraw units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Vugledar in order to preserve personnel and combat equipment, as well as to secure positions for further operations.
