Lavrov commented on EU plans for nuclear deterrence and the situation around Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the start of discussions in Europe on a new nuclear deterrence strategy shows that no one can achieve the defeat of the Russian Federation against the backdrop of peace negotiations. He added that during the war in the Russian Federation there are no deadlines, but only tasks that must be completed.

“Have you heard anything from us about deadlines?”, – the minister asked, answering the question about the terms of the peaceful settlement. “We do not have a deadline, we have tasks. We are solving them,” – he emphasized.

In addition, as reported by the Russian media, Lavrov called the “coalition of the willing” “wanting to pass themselves off as real.”

“They are a coalition of the willing, right? We have such an expression, and the English one too: “to pass off what is desired as real.” They remind us of people who are called “wanting to pass themselves off as real.”

They are probably upset that nothing is working out for them, I think. And the task is again to make Russia lose,” Lavrov said, calling the European plans “an intensification of nuclear rhetoric.” He also noted: “They say: “Ukraine is winning.” Well, if that’s how they perceive the picture”.

Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reported on talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on the creation of a joint European nuclear deterrent. According to the plan, it will be integrated into cooperation within NATO, and there will be no zones with different levels of security in Europe. The talks are currently at an early stage and, according to the Germans, are not aimed at reducing the role of the United States in this matter.
