Lithuania will hand over 200 transformers to Ukraine before the start of the heating season
Lithuanian state company AB Energijos skrystymo operatorius, which is responsible for the country’s distribution networks, will hand over a new batch of equipment for energy needs to Ukraine. The agreements were reached under the coordination of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania.
According to the donation agreement, Ukraine will receive more than 200 power transformers of various capacities. The transport of the equipment will take place through the Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Mechanism, funded and coordinated by the European Commission (ECHO). It is expected that the equipment will arrive before the beginning of the heating season.
“Thank you to Lithuania for this extraordinary support. Transformers are critically needed by us for the prompt restoration of power distribution networks that have suffered from Russian attacks, as well as for ensuring a stable electricity supply to consumers in wartime conditions. The support of our partners is important for us, in particular in terms of preparation for the new heating season”, – noted the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk.
In order to quickly respond to the consequences of attacks and carry out operational repairs, it is necessary to have a sufficient supply of backup equipment. For this purpose, the Ministry of Energy has initiated the creation of the National Strategic Reserve of Power Transformers, which is being filled with the help of international partners.
