Millions of state losses: the SBI suspects the former deputy head of the infrastructure agency
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) exposed the former deputy head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Projects of Ukraine in frauds involving the purchase of laser speed meters. By data press service of the department, it was established that the official, using his official position, contributed to the conclusion of the contract for the purchase of 72 units of laser meters at inflated prices, which led to losses of the state budget in the amount of almost 8.5 million hryvnias.
At the time of the offense, the suspect headed the tender committee and personally made the decision to enter into a direct contract, although there were no valid grounds for this. As a result of these actions, the state suffered significant financial losses. According to the results of the examination, the damages caused to the state budget amount to almost 8.5 million hryvnias.
Now the suspect holds the position of first deputy at one of the state-owned enterprises, which makes the case even more resonant.
The SBI charges the official with official negligence, which was expressed in the improper performance of official duties due to a dishonest attitude towards them, which caused serious consequences for state interests. The actions of the suspect fall under Part 2 of Art. 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to five years.
Procedural management in this case is carried out by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, which ensures compliance with the law during the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and the official may bear serious responsibility for his actions, which caused significant damage to the state budget.
This case is another evidence of the SBI’s active fight against corruption in state structures and confirmation of the need for stricter control over tender procedures in Ukraine.
